The Way Your Oversized Sweater Was Meant To Be Worn

Posted on September 29 2016

In today’s post we answer a question we hear all the time: “What types of shirts can I wear with a pencil skirt?” In particular, as we transition into cooler weather and therefore bulkier clothing to stay warm (cue up the sweaters), all that extra fabric can become a challenge to figure out how to tuck into your pencil skirt without getting lumps and bumps around the waist. That’s never a good look so here’s a tip on how to wardrobe your favorite pencil skirt with even the coziest oversized sweater.

Of course crop tops and bodysuits work amazingly well paired with pencil skirts, but nothing says Fall style like a cozy chunky sweater. The great news is, YES…you can wear your favorite oversized sweater styles with your favorite silhouette skimming pencil skirt, but the key is to make sure it says fashion not frump. We’ve curated a look to show you how.

So what’s the trick? Don’t overthink it and don’t try to make it look perfect. Loosely fold and tuck in the sweater at the front of the skirt’s waistband. To avoid bulges and unwanted bumps make sure the front looks flat and clean and then just let the remainder of the sweater hang loosely from the sides around to the back. By tucking in the sweater at the front, you are able to define your waist and if paired with a high-waisted pencil skirt, accentuate the length of your legs…always a #winning combination.

For days where you want to take your pencil skirt and sweater look more casual, wear a tunic length sweater completely untucked over your pencil skirt. Throw on some sneakers and a great bag and you are ready to go.
