The WRITTEN Woman is undoubtedly professional and you could definitely consider her a Girl Boss there’s no doubt about that, but you know us…we like to pave our own paths. What does that mean in this case? It means the traditional professional setting of yesteryear doesn’t necessarily apply today.
With more and more companies offering work-from-home positions and flexible dress codes to attract top talent, whose to say the WRITTEN Woman always has to wear her favorite pencil skirt with the traditional blazer and Jimmy Choos? Guess what…she doesn’t! For this reason, we always like to style our pencil skirts in a variety of ways: casual to dressy, to match the various lifestyles of the WRITTEN Woman.
Our latest pencil skirt available for pre-order was introduced last week. We call her “Mae” and take our word for it, she’s the perfect pencil skirt to wear for any occasion, but one style in particular that we’re really digging as of now is what we like to call “The Cool Girl” style which involves sneakers and a “don’t f*%$ with me” pair of shades. We recently met up with two of our favorite cool girls, blogger Meegan Hofmeister of SignedM, and Alisabeth Von Presley of TINT Studios for a photo shoot; now we’re sharing all of our cool girl styling secrets to get the same looks from that day.
The Cool Girl Look:
The Cool Girl Pieces:
Designer sneakers like those from the new hot brand, Golden Goose, not only are cool, but also extremely comfortable for those days when you don’t feel like hoofing it in stilettos.
A lightweight knit top with nice drape is the cool girl’s answer to a structured blazer that you might typically see paired with a pencil skirt. We opted for a two toned version with lace appliqué from MODE, however, we’ve shown you an additional option from Von Maur, as well. Everyone likes options, right?
A pair of black framed shades with gradient lenses are a cool girl’s everyday staple. They go with any outfit and make the statement that “you mean business”. With such a classic shape, the Ray-Bans we used work well with most face shapes, too.
Paired with black frames, a black leather handbag pulls the look together. For added edge, we selected one with extra metal hardware like this one from 3.1 Phillip Lim. A crossbody style is easy to sling over your shoulder without seeming as prim and proper as a handheld bag or clutch.
The Cool Girl Skirt:
The WRITTEN Apparel Mae Pencil Skirt is the perfect center to it all. The floral print makes this style fun and flirty, however, the laminated cotton fabric gives the illusion of leather or a coated denim. With grays and silvers dominating the soft pink hues, this pencil skirt is the cool girl’s go-to for “off to work” or “out to lunch”…whichever she decides for the day.
